The Intellectual Property India portal, governed by the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, serves as the official platform for the registration and management of intellectual property rights in India. Among its many features is the Trademark Application Queue List, which helps applicants, attorneys, and agents track the progress of trademark applications under different stages of examination. This system represents is a important step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and faster processing of trademark filings in India.

What is the Trademark Application Queue List?

The Trademark Application Queue List is a tool provided by the Office of the Registrar of Trade Marks that allows users to monitor applications currently in process. It categorizes applications based on their status in the examination or post-examination phase.

It allows stakeholders—such as applicants, trademark attorneys, and IP agents—to track the stage at which a trademark application currently stands.

Applicants can filter trademark applications based on three primary search types:

  • Hearing Queue (Show Cause)

  • Examination Queue

  • Review (MIS-R) Queue

Each of these queues reflects a different phase in the trademark registration Process.

 Search Type Options Available

The interface offers three main options to check the status of trademark applications:

1. Hearing Queue (Show Cause)

This section contains applications that have been objected to during examination and are awaiting a hearing. The hearing allows the applicant to respond to the objections raised under Section 9 (descriptive marks) or Section 11 (conflicting marks) of the Trade Marks Act, 1999.

2. Examination Queue

This is where new or pending applications are queued for initial examination by the Trademark Registry. Examiners assess whether the mark is eligible for registration and may issue an examination report with objections, if applicable.

3. Review (MIS-R) Queue

This section is used to track applications under review after a reply has been submitted to the examination report or hearing. These applications are typically pending a final decision such as acceptance, refusal, or publication in the Trademark Journal.

Purpose and Utility

The Queue List is beneficial for:

  • Trademark attorneys and agents track the progress of multiple applications.

  • Applicants who want to understand when their application will be taken up for examination or hearing.

  • Ensuring transparency in the processing of trademark applications.

  • Helping stakeholders prepare documentation or arguments before their application reaches a further stage like hearing.
